Sweden has announced the introduction of a mobile phone alert system designed to notify citizens in the event of aerial bombardments during wartime. This initiative is a response to lessons learned from the ongoing conflict in Ukraine, where external alert systems proved vulnerable to enemy attacks. Swedish authorities have noted that the previous external siren system, which comprises 4,500 sirens installed on roofs and tall buildings, may not be effective against sophisticated aerial threats, especially from Russia.

Henrik Larsson, head of the Swedish Civil Defense's population protection department, stated that the new mobile alert system, named SE Alert, will complement the existing warning infrastructure. The move underscores Sweden's preparedness for possible military threats in the region while reflecting a growing trend in Europe towards enhancing civil defense strategies amid rising geopolitical tensions. The system is expected to deliver voice messages and facilitate swift communication in emergency situations, thereby increasing public safety and awareness.
