An aesthetic center in Madrid offered ‘liftings’ with a fake machine that acted 'blindly' on patients

A Madrid aesthetic center has been shut down for using a fake device to perform lifting procedures without any medical efficacy.

Authorities in Madrid have shut down an aesthetic clinic after discovering that it was using a fraudulent device to perform lifting treatments on patients. The machine, which cost 4,800 euros, was a counterfeit of a legitimate medical device worth over 70,000 euros. Although the clinic had all necessary legal permits, the treatments offered at prices around 1,000 euros were misleading due to the lack of medical efficacy of the equipment used.

The fraudulent machine did not have the capability to conduct ultrasound scans, which are critical for ensuring that treatments penetrate the skin at the correct depth. Instead, it displayed a looped video meant to convince patients that they were seeing real-time images of their skin condition. This deceptive practice highlights significant concerns regarding patient safety and the integrity of information provided in the aesthetic medical industry.

The incident has raised alarms among health authorities, prompting them to urge strict adherence to regulations regarding medical devices in cosmetic treatments. Patients who have undergone treatments with this machine are now advised to seek professional medical assessment to evaluate any potential harm caused by the procedures. This case underscores the importance of vigilance in the cosmetic services sector to protect patients from unlicensed and dangerous practices.
