New inspections will be carried out at Corredor da Folia in Santana after a reveler dies from electric shock

The Amapá Public Ministry has ordered new inspections after a 21-year-old woman's death from electric shock during a carnival event in Santana.

The Amapá Public Ministry (MP-AP) has mandated additional inspections within ten days at the Corredor da Folia in Santana following the tragic death of 21-year-old Renata Teixeira, who died from an electric shock during the carnival festivities on Tuesday morning. In the aftermath of the incident, the local government has suspended the fourth day of the 'CarnaSantana 2026' celebration, with plans to resume the event on Saturday, February 28, contingent upon the approval of relevant authorities.

Following the fatal incident, three meetings took place at the mayor's office which included representatives from the Ministry of Public and the local administration. These meetings were aimed at addressing safety measures in adherence to commitments established in two Terms of Adjustment of Conduct (TACs) that were signed prior to the carnival to ensure public safety. The discussions, led by prosecutors Elissandra Toscano and Miguel Angel Ferreira, focused on the establishment of a crisis cabinet to handle emergency situations.

The forthcoming inspections are part of the measures to prevent future incidents and enhance safety during public events. The case underscores the critical need for rigorous safety protocols during large gatherings, especially during high-energy celebrations like carnival season, which attracts significant crowds and presents numerous safety challenges.
