Russian General Boasted to Wife About Torturing and Killing Ukrainian Prisoners — Cut Off Their Ears and Kept Them

A Russian general bragged about torturing and killing Ukrainian prisoners, including cutting off their ears, in correspondence revealed by Lithuanian journalists.

Lithuanian journalists uncovered communications from Russian General R.Demurčijevas that detail his bragging about the torture and execution of Ukrainian prisoners of war during the ongoing conflict. The journalists obtained access to his personal correspondence from a source within the Ukrainian military, although the messaging platform used was not specified. Analyzing archives from 2022 to 2024, they found disturbing accounts of his experiences in the conflict, portraying the atrocities inflicted on captured Ukrainians.

In one notable incident from October 18, 2022, Demurčijevas reported taking a stronghold after a three-day assault, capturing four Ukrainian soldiers. Following this, he sent a photo to his wife showing severed and discolored ears hanging from a metal pipe, highlighting the grotesque nature of his activities. This revelation raises serious concerns about the conduct of Russian military personnel and the systemic violence that may be prevalent within their ranks during the war in Ukraine.

Furthermore, journalists revealed discussions between Demurčijevas and a contact he referred to as "Grek," possibly a military counterintelligence officer named Roman. He proposed that he had a new "gift" — a prisoner of war. His message raised chilling questions about the treatment of Ukrainian POWs, asking whether he should dispose of the prisoner or hand him over to his contact, indicating a casual and horrific attitude toward the lives of those captured in conflict. These revelations contribute to the ongoing scrutiny of war crimes and human rights abuses that have occurred amid the Ukraine war, demanding a response from the international community.
