Getting help to reduce conflicts

The Norwegian Biathlon Federation is addressing conflicts within the organization by hiring a consultancy to improve communication and processes, particularly concerning team selections ahead of the Olympics.

In light of previous conflicts within the Norwegian Biathlon Federation, especially highlighted during the last Olympic preparations, the organization has taken proactive measures to mitigate tensions. Notably, prominent athlete Vetle Sjåstad Christiansen expressed disappointment regarding the communication from leadership surrounding team selections. The feedback from both leaders and athletes indicated a need for improvement, prompting the federation to enlist the help of the consultancy firm Oppskvær to foster better communication and collaborative processes.

The investment, amounting to around 150,000 Norwegian Krone, has been directed toward improving internal relationships and ensuring a smoother selection process for competitions. General Secretary Emilie Nordskar noted that their efforts have included having Mette-Jorunn Meisland from Oppskvær attend three training camps, helping to facilitate constructive discussions among team members. The federation is pleased with this investment and is looking to continue the collaboration as they aim for a more harmonious environment.

This initiative reflects an understanding of the pressures faced by athletes and the importance of maintaining a supportive internal culture. As preparations gear up for future competitions, this focus on conflict resolution and communication could play a crucial role in enhancing team performance and morale, especially in high-stakes environments like the Olympics.
