Three men sentenced to 14 years in bombing case from Odense
Three young men have been sentenced to 14 years in prison each for attempting to detonate a bomb and for their involvement in a shooting incident in Odense, Denmark.
In a significant ruling by the Odense District Court, three young men, aged 20, 21, and 23, have each been sentenced to 14 years in prison for their involvement in attempted bombing and a shooting incident that occurred in Odense. The individuals were convicted of attempting to detonate a 4.4 kilogram plastic explosive bomb in the vicinity of Nyborgvej on the night of December 28-29, 2023. Their plan to detonate the bomb in a residential entrance failed due to their inability to access the location.
The day following their initial attempt, the accused attempted to carry out the bombing again but were deterred by a police patrol, leading them to flee the scene. In addition to the bombing attempt, the men were also found guilty of orchestrating a shooting incident where an accomplice fired a submachine gun into a residential property in Odense, endangering the lives of a family that included two children who were present at the time.
Adding to the severity of their crimes, the 23-year-old defendant faced additional charges related to the unlawful detention and assault of an individual, which included physical violence and rape lasting at least two weeks. This case highlights significant concerns regarding violent crime in the region, prompting discussions about public safety and the judicial response to such acts.
