DMI: Beware of possible meltwater pools on the roads
DMI warns of potential meltwater pools on roads due to warmer weather and snow melting over the weekend.
The Danish Meteorological Institute (DMI) has issued a warning regarding the upcoming warm weekend, which may lead to meltwater pools forming on roads. The combination of melting snow, rainfall, and existing snow on the ground could pressure drainage systems, raising concerns about localized flooding. DMI hydrologist Jonas Wied reassures that neither the expected precipitation nor the snow accumulation is alarming; however, specific conditions could exacerbate drainage issues.
Wied points out that areas where snow accumulates close to walls or drains might pose greater risks for proper water drainage. Such conditions can lead to larger meltwater pools forming on the streets, representing a hazard for drivers and pedestrians alike. The DMI encourages the public to drive cautiously during this transitional weather and to take preventive measures if they have snow piles adjacent to their homes. This can involve digging channels to help manage the flow of meltwater more effectively.
Additionally, as the weather warms up, DMI advises vigilance against ice formation, which can also occur during this period of change. Drivers and residents are urged to remain alert as conditions can vary rapidly, promoting safety during the potentially hazardous weather conditions that typically accompany spring thawing.
