Ukraine to receive decommissioned equipment from 6 European thermal plants

Ukraine has secured agreements to receive decommissioned equipment from six European thermal plants to aid in restoring its energy infrastructure.

In a significant development for Ukraine's energy sector, the Ukrainian delegation at the International Energy Agency has successfully negotiated the procurement of decommissioned equipment from six combined heat and power plants across Europe. This initiative, led by Energy Minister Denys Shmyhal, includes contributions from several countries, namely Latvia, Austria, Finland, Croatia, France, and Germany. The provision of this equipment is aimed at bolstering Ukraine’s energy infrastructure, which has suffered considerable damage due to the ongoing conflict with Russia.

Minister Shmyhal emphasized that the transfer and installation of this equipment will occur swiftly, ensuring a prompt restoration of key power plants that were destroyed during the conflict. The newly acquired equipment is intended to reinforce Ukraine's capacity to generate heat and energy crucial for the civilian population, particularly during the harsh winter months when energy demands peak.

This development comes amid broader efforts to secure energy support for Ukraine, with over €600 million allocated by the Ministry of Energy and its Western partners in Paris. This financial support, combined with the technical assistance from European partners, underscores the international community's commitment to helping Ukraine rebuild its energy infrastructure and ensure the provision of essential services to its citizens amid ongoing challenges.
