Montero defends her continuity in the Government to 'benefit Andalusia'
Spanish Vice President María Jesús Montero asserts her intention to remain in government to benefit Andalusia, emphasizing fiscal support and key projects ahead of upcoming elections.
In a statement made at an informational event organized by Europa Press in Seville, Spain's First Vice President and Minister of Finance, María Jesús Montero, expressed her determination to stay in the government until the Andalusian parliament is dissolved by President Juan Manuel Moreno, and elections are scheduled before June. Montero articulated her belief that her continued presence in government will positively impact Andalusia, asserting, "it is worth continuing, as it means working and benefiting Andalusia."
She highlighted the financial significance of her role, quantifying government support for the region amidst various challenges, including 5.7 billion euros from the financing system, 19 billion euros for debt forgiveness, and an additional 7 billion euros allocated for addressing the recent temporary situation. This financial commitment is critical as the region prepares for possible elections amid pressures facing the ruling PSOE party following unfavorable electoral results.
Montero's remarks come at a pivotal time for the Socialist Party (PSOE) in Andalusia, aiming to solidify its position against rising opposition ahead of upcoming parliament disbandments and elections. While underscoring fiscal plans, her defense of staying in office is also a strategic move to stabilize her party's image and reinforce their governance amidst challenging circumstances, positioning the PSOE to face the electorate under a coherent agenda that promises substantial financial backing for key projects in the region.
