Dan Skelton adds to Cheltenham Festival team after buying talent for £245,000
Dan Skelton has signed a winning hurdler, Glance At Midnight, for £245,000 to bolster his Cheltenham Festival team.
Dan Skelton, the season's leading jumps trainer, has made a significant addition to his roster by acquiring a six-year-old gelding named Glance At Midnight for £245,000. This horse has shown considerable promise, having finished strongly in its previous races, notably placing second to two of this season's most talked-about novice hurdlers. Skelton's investment reflects his commitment to maintaining competitive prowess as he heads toward the prestigious Cheltenham Festival.
Glance At Midnight has demonstrated solid capabilities on the track by winning two of its seven races under owner-trainer Andrew Martin. Most notably, the horse secured a runner-up position in December against Old Park Star, the current favorite for the Supreme Novices’ Hurdle, and subsequently finished second again behind Act Of Authority in the Listed Sidney Banks at Huntingdon. These performances highlight a trajectory of upward potential, making Glance At Midnight a valuable addition to Skelton's team.
The acquisition was facilitated through the online auction service GoffsGo, where Glance At Midnight was listed for sale. The purchase was completed by agent Ryan Mahon on behalf of Skelton, who is gearing up for major events at the Cheltenham Festival, with the gelding entered in both the Sky Bet Supreme and Turners’ Novices’ Hurdles. This move not only showcases Skelton's strategic planning for the Festival but also emphasizes the growing trend of utilizing online platforms for purchasing horses in the competitive racing industry.
