The Government of Ghana has ramped up its diplomatic engagement with Latvian authorities following the death of Nana Agyei Ahyia, a Ghanaian student who died under suspicious circumstances while studying in the Baltic state. In a statement released by Ghana's Ministry of Foreign Affairs, officials indicated that the government is committed to ensuring transparency and accountability throughout the investigation, stressing the importance of protecting the welfare and rights of Ghanaians abroad. As part of these efforts, a delegation led by the Foreign Minister travelled to Latvia to advocate for justice regarding Ahyia's death.

The delegation included various experts such as forensic specialists, a pathologist, and lawyers, alongside diplomatic representatives including Ghana's Ambassador and consular officers from the Ghanaian Embassy in Berlin. They engaged with several high-ranking Latvian officials, including the Foreign Minister, Minister for the Interior, police chiefs, and state prosecutors who are directly involved in the investigation. This collaborative approach indicates the seriousness with which Ghana takes the case, as they seek to ensure a comprehensive inquiry into the circumstances surrounding the student’s untimely death.
