Now it can be declared: Iivo Niskanen received quite a shocking piece of information - "Absolutely shocking"
Iivo Niskanen faces potentially heavy racing conditions in the men's 50 km skiing competition at Val di Fiemme, with temperatures expected to rise and snow affecting the track.
Iivo Niskanen is set to compete in the men's 50 km cross-country skiing event, which will take place in very challenging conditions in Val di Fiemme. With forecasted temperatures ranging from 5 to 9 degrees Celsius, combined with recently fallen snow, the tracks are likely to slow down competitors significantly, potentially extending race times by up to 20 minutes. This added difficulty could play to Niskanen's advantage, according to expert Harri Kirvesniemi, who believes that the heavier conditions will require increased energy expenditure from the athletes—by as much as 30-40%—allowing Niskanen a better chance to break away from the pack.
Kirvesniemi also suggests that Johannes Kläbo, despite being a formidable competitor with five races already under his belt, could be vulnerable in these tougher conditions presented by the mountainous terrain of Tesero. Analysts predict that Niskanen's endurance and capability to adapt to the adverse weather might enable him to capitalize on the tough racing situation, possibly foreshadowing a surprising outcome in this critical event.
As the competition approaches, various forecasts indicate possible nighttime temperatures slightly dipping below freezing on the night leading into the race. However, Finnish head coach Heikki Tonteri is skeptical about any salt treatment on the tracks prior to the event. As such, conditions are expected to remain challenging, which could further affect the performance of all skiers during the competition at this prestigious Olympic event.
