Camaragibe Metro Line Reaches Second Day Without Operation; See Closed Stations and Reinforced Bus Lines
The Camaragibe branch of the Recife Metro has not operated for two days affecting up to 40,000 passengers due to an aerial network failure.
The Camaragibe branch of the Recife Metro is experiencing its second consecutive day of service disruption, impacting around 40,000 daily passengers. The outage began at 10:50 PM on October 18, due to a failure in the aerial network, as reported by Companhia Brasileira de Trens Urbanos (CBTU). Meanwhile, other lines, including the South Line and the Jaboatão branch, continue to operate as scheduled without interruptions.
On October 20, CBTU technicians are still working to repair the issues that led to the suspension of the Camaragibe line. The repair process has uncovered additional technical problems during the final stages of tests. While a timeline for complete restoration of service has not been provided, it is anticipated that trains will resume service on a single track between Camaragibe and Rodoviária, allowing for limited train operations to commence until full functionality is restored.
As repairs continue, five stations along the Camaragibe line remain closed, specifically the Alto do Céu station among others. Passengers are advised to seek alternative transportation options including reinforced bus lines to mitigate the impact of the service outage. The situation emphasizes the need for effective infrastructure maintenance and rapid response solutions to minimize disruption for commuters.
