100% electric cars sold in Spain nearly double those of diesel, and charging points exceed 50,000

Sales of 100% electric cars in Spain have nearly doubled that of diesel vehicles, with over 50,000 charging points available nationwide.

According to the recently released Annual Report on Sustainable Mobility, the sale of 100% electric vehicles in Spain has surged, surpassing the sales of diesel cars by nearly two-fold, accounting for 9% of total car registrations in 2025. This growth comes amidst persistent myths regarding electric vehicles, particularly misinformation about their safety and charging infrastructure. Despite claims suggesting a fleeting trend, the data indicates a definitive shift towards electric cars in the national market.

The report highlights that there are now over 50,000 charging points across Spain, an increase of 4,600 from the previous year, demonstrating significant infrastructure development necessary for supporting electric vehicles. Additionally, when combining both plug-in hybrids and electric vehicles, the current total on Spanish roads has reached approximately 850,000. These advancements signify a crucial step towards the decarbonization of transportation, central to combating emissions that contribute to climate change.

While the industry remains optimistic about this trajectory, it also points out delays in the implementation of emission-free support measures under the Auto+ Plan, which will not be available until June but will be retroactive from January 1st. This could potentially influence purchasing decisions among consumers considering the switch from diesel to electric. The momentum observed in electric vehicle sales reflects a growing awareness and commitment to sustainable mobility in Spain.
