Zoologist: To get rid of moths, clothes and dry goods need to be frozen multiple times

Zoologist Joosep Sarapuu advises that freezing clothes and dry goods multiple times is effective for eradicating moths, particularly the flour moth, and emphasizes preventative measures against them.

In a recent discussion on "Terevisioon," zoologist Joosep Sarapuu highlighted the importance of freezing clothes and dry goods to eliminate moth infestations. He explained that a cold shock administered multiple times is effective in destroying moths, particularly flour moths which may be annoying but are not significantly harmful. Sarapuu suggests that preventive measures are crucial, as simply eliminating moths after they appear can be challenging.

Sarapuu elaborated on secondary methods for controlling moth numbers, such as airing out and beating affected items outdoors. While these methods can reduce moth populations, they are not entirely effective at eradicating them. He mentioned that colder weather naturally aids in reducing moth populations, and lengthy exposure to temperatures below minus ten degrees Celsius can result in successful extermination of these pests.

The zoologist's insights stress the need for proactive approaches to household pest management, especially concerning moths that may damage food supplies. He recommends ongoing vigilance and the use of freezing as a practical method for both immediate and long-term pest control.
