Finnish Voted Kuusamo Landscape as the Most Beautiful Postage Stamp

Finnish voters selected a winter landscape featuring the Myllykoski rapids as the most beautiful postage stamp for 2025, photographed by Jukka Risikko.

In a national vote, Finnish citizens have chosen a winter scene of the Myllykoski rapids as the most beautiful postage stamp for the year 2025. The stamp is credited to photographer Jukka Risikko, showcasing an old mill building against a backdrop of snowy, frosty landscapes along the Kitkajoki River in Kuusamo. Out of over 9,000 votes cast, the winning stamp received 33% of the votes, highlighting the public's appreciation for the stark beauty of winter in Finland.

Jukka Risikko has established a reputation in stamp design, having achieved similar success in previous years, winning the titles for the most beautiful stamps in 2021, 2022, and 2024. His ability to capture picturesque winter scenes under extreme conditions—specifically at 25 degrees below zero Celsius—provides him with unique photographic opportunities that many find magical. According to Risikko, the combination of snow, frost, and special lighting creates scenes that cannot be replicated under milder weather conditions.

Myllykoski, the site of this stunning landscape, is part of the Karhunkierros hiking trail in Kuusamo, which is known for its scenic beauty. This recognition not only underscores the artistic talent of Finnish photographers but also reflects a broader appreciation for natural landscapes in Finland, enhancing both the cultural significance of the postal service and the intrinsic value placed on nature by its citizens.
