Catholic Church: Generational Change Under the Cross

Monsignor Josef Riedl is retiring after 44 years of service, with Stefan Schmitt set to succeed him as pastor in Ebersberg.

Monsignor Josef Riedl, a key figure in the Catholic Church within the Ebersberg district for 44 years, is set to retire on April 30, marking the end of an era for his community. For 38 years, he served as a pastor and 18 years as dean and spiritual advisor, significantly shaping the local church's presence and activities. His commitment and leadership have left a lasting impact on the parishes he has overseen in the region.

Stefan Schmitt will take over Riedl's responsibilities, appointed by Archbishop Reinhard Cardinal Marx effective May 1. Schmitt, who currently serves as a parish vicar in Rosenheim, will lead the parishes of Ebersberg (St. Sebastian), Zorneding (St. Martin), Kirchseeon (St. Joseph), and the Steinhöring parish association. This transition not only reflects a change in pastoral leadership but also symbolizes a generational shift within the church, as younger leaders like Schmitt take on more prominent roles in guiding their communities.

The new dean is already Pastor Stephan Rauscher from Grafing, indicating ongoing developments within the clergy of the region. As Schmitt steps into his new role, he expresses a deep connection to his home parish, highlighting his commitment to nurturing faith in the community. This transition in leadership signals not just a change in personnel, but a potential evolution in the church's approach to serving its congregation in Ebersberg and beyond.
