Pressed Head to the Ground, Strangled, Pulled the Purse: Revealed How the Deadly Robbery of an Indian Took Place in Vilnius

A Lithuanian man was sentenced to three years in prison for the deadly robbery of an Indian national in Vilnius.

Igoris Molotkovas was convicted by the Vilnius City District Court for the robbery and unintentional killing of a foreigner, resulting in a three-year prison sentence. The court also ordered him to pay over 7,000 euros in damages to the victim's family.

In a tragic incident that unfolded in the autumn of 2023 in Vilnius, Molotkovas offered assistance to an Indian citizen, claiming he would help direct him to the bus station. However, instead of providing help, he attacked the victim near Sodų Street, where he forcefully brought him to the ground. In a violent act, he pressed the victim’s head down, strangled him, and attempted to steal his belongings. After the robbery, the attacker fled the scene, leaving the victim suffering from serious injuries, which ultimately led to his death.

This case raises serious concerns about public safety in urban areas and spotlights the risks faced by foreign nationals in Lithuania. The conviction of Molotkovas, deemed a repeat offender, serves as a reminder of the potential dangers faced by those who may be vulnerable to crime, and highlights the judiciary's stance on addressing violent crime in the country.
