Estonia Imprisons Israeli Citizen for Spying for Russia's FSB
An Israeli citizen, Anatolijus Privalovas, has been sentenced to prison in Estonia for espionage activities linked to Russia's FSB, which reportedly began in 2016.
Anatolijus Privalovas, a 50-year-old Israeli citizen, has been imprisoned in Estonia following accusations of spying for the Russian Federal Security Service (FSB). According to the prosecutors, Privalovas established ties with the FSB as early as 2016 and engaged in activities that endangered Estonia's national security for almost a decade until his arrest in October 2025. In addition to his prison sentence, he has been fined €2,215.
The charges against Privalovas include the transmission of intelligence information and materials through electronic communication channels as well as personal meetings with FSB agents in Russia. The information he reportedly provided involved details about Estonian law enforcement and security agencies, including state defense facilities. Furthermore, he is said to have shared data about individuals who could potentially be recruited for covert collaboration with Russia, highlighting a direct threat to national security.
Prosecutors disclosed that Privalovas was involved in acts of sabotage and incidents related to migration, which raises concerns over possible espionage networks operating within Estonia and broader implications for security in the region. The case underscores ongoing tensions between Estonia and Russia, especially in the context of espionage and national defense involving foreign agents.
