Danish economy continued its upswing in 2025 despite uncertainty about tariffs
The Danish job market thrived in 2025, reporting an increase in employment even in the face of tariff concerns.
In 2025, Denmark's economy showed remarkable resilience with a thriving job market, as reported by Danmarks Statistik. In December alone, the number of wage earners grew by 4,200, bringing the total to 3,079,000. This figure represents an increase of 39,800 compared to the same time the previous year, highlighting a consistent growth trend in employment which has now risen for 24 consecutive months. Erik Bjørsted, chief economist at Dansk Metal, expressed his admiration for the ongoing positive developments in the labor market despite underlying uncertainties.
Bjørsted pointed out that the economic landscape facing Denmark is complex, particularly since former President Donald Trump's administration sparked considerable concerns regarding tariffs and geopolitical tensions. Nevertheless, even with layoffs at major companies like Novo Nordisk, the employment rates have held strong. His analysis suggests that although global economic uncertainty persists, Danish companies continue to create new job opportunities, indicating a robust underlying demand in the labor market.
Looking ahead to 2026, Bjørsted believes this upward trend will likely continue, fueled by the steady creation of new positions at Danish firms. This positive outlook is significant, as it provides hope for stability and growth within the Danish economy while navigating external challenges. The resilience displayed by the employment sector in response to potential barriers such as tariffs could be a strong indicator of the overall economic strength of Denmark moving forward.
