Snow and wind make traffic difficult: Traffic jams, restrictions, and increased caution on the roads

Severe weather conditions in Croatia, including snow and strong winds, are causing significant disruptions to traffic and prompting warnings for drivers to exercise caution.

Croatia is currently facing challenging weather conditions characterized by snow, strong winds, and low temperatures across the country. Various areas, particularly in the mountains and the northwestern region, are experiencing snowfall that affects road conditions, while drivers are advised to stay vigilant, as many roadways are wet, slippery, or covered in snow. Numerous restrictions have been implemented to ensure road safety amid these winter conditions.

Snow is notably falling in regions such as Sljeme, Zavižan, Gorski Kotar, and Lika, with the potential for snowfall extending into other inland areas and possibly reaching parts of the northern Adriatic. The Croatian Meteorological and Hydrological Service has issued a higher alert level due to the adverse weather. Although a gradual clearing is expected overnight from the west, Saturday is projected to bring plummeting temperatures in certain areas, with local predictions indicating lows of up to -5 °C.

Looking ahead, Sunday is forecasted to provide some relief with warmer conditions, especially along the Adriatic coast, and a continuation of this warming trend into the following week. However, in the meantime, road conditions remain treacherous, and the public is urged to exercise extreme caution while traveling during this winter weather event in Croatia.
