The majority prefers two short winter breaks over one long one

A recent Gallup poll shows that most respondents in Iceland prefer having two shorter winter breaks rather than one extended break for schools.

A recent survey conducted by Gallup in Iceland revealed that the majority of respondents prefer two shorter winter breaks instead of a single longer break for primary and secondary schools. The current winter break began recently, with schools in Reykjavik closed for the holiday. The preference for shorter breaks is evident in the survey results, which show varied opinions based on family income levels.

The poll indicated some differences in preferences based on the respondents' income. Participants from lower-income families tended to prefer the two shorter breaks, while those from higher-income households preferred one longer break. Notably, the majority of families earning between 800,000 to 1,200,000 ISK per month leaned more towards the option of two shorter winter vacations, with 79% supporting this preference.

Furthermore, parents of primary school children were more inclined to opt for one longer winter break compared to others. This survey provides insights into the varying perspectives on school breaks in Iceland and highlights the impact of economic factors on educational policies and parents' preferences for their children's academic year planning.
