Carnival in the Square. Among Clowns and Magic Awaiting the Parade
Milan's Carnival celebrations include street performances by clowns and the traditional parade of allegorical floats, attracting locals and visitors alike.
Milan is in a festive mood as schools are closed for the Carnival celebrations, which will continue until midnight tomorrow as it leads into Lent. This year's festivities mark the 51st annual parade featuring traditional allegorical floats from the Milanese Oratories (Fom), scheduled for tomorrow. During the lead-up to the parade, residents are encouraged to explore the streets filled with clowns who are present for numerous free shows, offering entertainment and magic to audiences.
The Milan Clown Festival, dedicated to street theater, is organized by the School of Circus Arts and has gathered support from various patrons, including the National Committee of San Francesco. This year, over 50 artists from different countries will perform in 25 locations, some indoor. The main hub of the festival is the tent set up at the Mendel Gardens on Via Restelli, located in front of the Palazzo della Regione. The events are spread across multiple districts, including Isola, Municipalities 1 and 2, Trotter Park, and Via Padova.
As the Carnival celebrations draw locals and visitors alike, the festive atmosphere not only emphasizes Milan's rich cultural fabric but also highlights the traditional and modern aspects of community celebrations. The engagement of international performers enriches this local tradition, turning it into an occasion that attracts a diverse audience eager for entertainment and cultural exchange, showcasing Milan's vibrant community spirit during this festive season.
