First meeting of the 'Board of Peace' in Washington, promise of billions of dollars for Gaza reconstruction

The inaugural meeting of the 'Board of Peace' aimed at Gaza reconstruction was held in Washington, where representatives of around 50 countries pledged a total of $17 billion to aid rebuilding efforts.

The 'Board of Peace', initiated by the U.S. administration for peace and development in Gaza, convened its first meeting in Washington D.C. at the U.S. Institute of Peace. Nearly 50 countries were represented at this significant gathering, with 27 countries being members of the board while India and several European nations participated as observers. The informal coalition aims to coordinate humanitarian and reconstruction efforts in the region following extensive conflicts. During the meeting, U.S. President Donald Trump announced a collective commitment from various countries amounting to $7 billion for Gaza's reconstruction. Additionally, the United States pledged to contribute $10 billion to the efforts. This funding seeks to address the immense destruction caused by Israeli bombings in Gaza. However, a report from the United Nations indicated that over $70 billion would be necessary to adequately repopulate and restore Gaza, highlighting the vast challenges that lie ahead for any reconstruction initiatives. Moreover, Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto announced the intention to deploy 8,000 soldiers to serve within an international stabilization force in Gaza, emphasizing Indonesia's commitment to peace in the region. This move underscores the growing international responsibility and involvement in Gaza's reconstruction efforts, reflecting a global acknowledgment of the urgent humanitarian needs stemming from ongoing conflicts in the area.
