Sudan: MSF Treats Around 170 People for Drone Injuries in Two Weeks

Médecins Sans Frontières reported treating around 170 people with injuries from drone strikes in Sudan, highlighting the dangers to civilians amid ongoing conflict.

In early February, the violence in Sudan intensified as drone strikes by the Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF) and Rapid Support Forces (RSF) resulted in significant civilian injuries. Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) reported that they treated 167 patients suffering from serious injuries, including penetrating wounds and fractures, in the first two weeks of the month. The ongoing attacks have targeted civilian areas and vital infrastructure, raising alarms about the safety of both the population and humanitarian workers.

Amid this humanitarian crisis, MSF also emphasized the urgent need for the protection of civilians. On February 15, MSF teams in Chad reported receiving 18 injured civilians from Sudanian drone strikes. The situation not only displays the immediate consequences of the conflict but also indicates a concerning pattern of violence that threatens the well-being of vulnerable communities across borders. The organization condemned the attacks and called for immediate protective measures for civilians caught in the crossfire.

The escalation of drone warfare has drawn international attention and underscores a critical need for a reassessment of strategies to protect non-combatants in conflict zones. As MSF continues to provide urgent medical assistance, the broader implications of these strikes threaten to exacerbate the humanitarian crisis in the region, challenging efforts to deliver aid and maintain stability amid ongoing violence.
