Iran tells the UN that they are not seeking war with the USA

Iran has communicated to the UN that it does not wish to start a war with the USA but will respond decisively if attacked.

Iran has officially informed the United Nations that it does not seek a war with the United States, as stated in a letter to UN Secretary-General António Guterres. The Iranian delegation emphasized that while they do not desire conflict, they will respond firmly to any acts of aggression against them. This assertion comes in light of escalating tensions and aggressive rhetoric from U.S. President Donald Trump, which, according to Iran, poses a 'real risk of military aggression'.

The Iranian correspondence underlined that in the event of a military attack, Iran would view bases, facilities, and property of the 'hostile power' in the region as legitimate targets. It highlights the fears within Iran regarding potential military actions by the U.S., especially given the historical context of U.S.-Iran relations, marked by suspicion and hostility since the 1979 Iranian Revolution.

Furthermore, the situation has been exacerbated by the U.S. significantly increasing its military presence in the Middle East recently, which includes the deployment of fighter jets, tankers, and a range of naval vessels, including aircraft carriers. This military buildup is seen as a direct response to perceived threats in the region, contributing to currently heightened fears of conflict between Iran and the United States.
