China's TCL Surpasses Samsung to Become the Global TV Market Leader

China's TCL has overtaken Samsung to become the global leader in the TV market according to Counterpoint Research.

Chinese company TCL has made a significant impact on the global TV market by surpassing Samsung to claim the top position as of December, according to Counterpoint Research. The report highlights that TCL's market share reached 16%, a 1.6% increase from the previous year, while Samsung's share declined to 13%, dropping 4 percentage points compared to the previous month. This shift indicates a dynamic change in consumer preferences and the competitive landscape of the TV market.

Bob O'Brien, a research director at Counterpoint, pointed out that TCL has been steadily increasing its market share for several months, leading to a surge in shipments that allowed it to surpass Samsung by the end of December. O'Brien also noted that while TCL is experiencing consistent growth, Samsung shows signs of stagnation, which is concerning given the fierce competition in the consumer electronics sector. This development suggests a potential shift in market leadership dynamics.

Looking ahead, Counterpoint Research believes that if TCL strengthens its position in the premium segment through collaborations, especially with companies like Sony, it could pose an even greater competitive threat to Samsung. Companies in the tech industry must adapt to these changes as consumer preferences evolve, and the battle for market dominance continues.
