Canadian designer takes centre ice at 2026 Winter Olympics
A Quebec designer is set to showcase his elaborate costumes for top figure skaters at the 2026 Winter Olympics.
Mathieu Caron, a Quebec-based costume designer, is poised to receive international recognition at the upcoming 2026 Winter Olympics by designing costumes for elite figure skaters. Caron's journey began as a ballroom dancer with a keen interest in the aesthetics of dance costumes, which motivated him to pursue fashion design at LaSalle College in Montreal. This passion has blossomed over more than a decade, leading to his expansion into the world of figure skating and ice dancing.
Caron's work has previously caught the attention of Olympic audiences, notably when he designed costumes for Canadian ice dancers Tessa Virtue and Scott Moir during their spectacular gold medal performance at the 2018 Pyeongchang Olympics. His ability to blend creativity with a deep understanding of the performance art has made him a sought-after designer, and now he is excited to present his latest creations on an even larger stage at the forthcoming Winter Games in Milan.
With 28 costumes commissioned for various athletes, Caron anticipates that this opportunity will not only elevate his career but also spotlight Canadian talent in the competitive realm of sports fashion. His unique designs are expected to play a pivotal role in enhancing the performances of the skaters who wear them, contributing significantly to the overall spectacle of the Games.
