"Trump is chaotic": A member of the ruling party criticizes him and requests from Prime Minister Takaichi
A senior member of Japan's ruling party criticized former President Trump for his environmental policies and urged Prime Minister Takaichi to emphasize climate change measures in the upcoming summit with the U.S.
On November 20th, Nobuharu Inoue, the chairman of the Environment and Climate Change Policy Research Council of Japan's ruling Liberal Democratic Party (LDP), expressed his discontent with former President Donald Trump's recent actions regarding environmental policies, calling his statements 'chaotic.' Inoue specifically condemned Trump’s dismissal of the government interpretation that served as the basis for regulating greenhouse gases and urged Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi to address the importance of climate change at the upcoming Japan-U.S. summit.
During the joint meeting of the LDP's Environment Division and the Climate Change Policy Research Council, Inoue referenced the decision by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) to overturn previous guidelines concerning emissions from gasoline vehicles. He expressed concern over Trump's backward stance on environmental policy, highlighting the statement where Trump claimed that existing emissions regulations were unnecessary and had severely harmed the American automotive industry.
Inoue’s criticism points to a broader concern within Japan about the impacts of U.S. environmental policies on global climate efforts. As the world grapples with climate change issues, Inoue's appeal to Prime Minister Takaichi reflects a desire for Japan to assert leadership in climate initiatives, especially in dialogue with the United States where policy shifts can have significant international repercussions.
