After Toffoli's decisions, Mendonça resumes 'ordinary flow' of expert examinations and testimonies in Master investigation
Brazil's Minister of the Supreme Federal Court, André Mendonça, has reinstated standard procedures for expert examinations and testimonies in the Police Federal's investigation of Banco Master, following previous restrictive measures from former rapporteur Dias Toffoli.
In Brazil, Minister André Mendonça of the Supreme Federal Court (STF) has decided to restore the 'ordinary flow' of expert examinations and testimonies in the ongoing investigation by the Federal Police (PF) concerning the Banco Master case. This decision comes after former rapporteur Dias Toffoli implemented restrictions by ordering that seized assets and documents be sealed and stored at the STF, thereby limiting the progress of forensic work.
In January, Toffoli also identified which Federal Police experts were permitted to analyze the seized materials involved in the case. Furthermore, on the 12th of the month, he mandated that data from all confiscated and examined cell phones related to the Master case be sent to the STF, after which he removed himself from the role of rapporteur, a position that Mendonça now occupies. Mendonça's recent ruling effectively lifts some of the constraints imposed by Toffoli, facilitating the work of investigators and forensic experts, although it maintains confidentiality measures outlined previously.
This development marks a significant shift in the handling of the Banco Master case, highlighting the dynamic nature of judicial management in Brazil. The resumption of ordinary procedures could lead to expedited investigations, potentially unveiling more information regarding the alleged financial irregularities at Banco Master and affecting those involved. The implications of this decision may influence public trust in the judiciary, especially concerning the transparency and efficiency with which high-profile cases are managed.
