Second victim of shooting in Estácio dies; two others, including a child, remain hospitalized
A second victim of a shooting in Estácio, Rio de Janeiro, has died while two others, including a child, are hospitalized after the incident.
On Thursday afternoon, a second person succumbed to injuries from a shooting that occurred near the Praça da Clínica da Família Medalhista Olímpico Ricardo Lucarelli in Estácio, Rio de Janeiro. This victim, identified as 24-year-old Henrique da Silva, passed away in the Hospital da PM, following the earlier death of 37-year-old Marcos Pinícius Gomes Marinho from the same incident that took place on Wednesday night. In addition to the fatalities, two others were injured during the shooting, which includes a 9-year-old child who remains hospitalized.
The shooting took place in the vicinity of Rua Frei Caneca between the streets of Neco do Estácio and Alcebíades Barcelos, highlighting the escalating violence in the region. Witnesses reported that gunmen associated with the Morro do Fallet, a faction of the Comando Vermelho, invaded an area known as “Predinhos”, which is under the influence of another criminal faction called the Terceiro Comando Puro (TCP). This incident not only reflects the ongoing gang warfare in Rio but also poses serious concerns regarding public safety in densely populated communities.
Local residents expressed their fear and frustration over the rampant violence, emphasizing that such incidents disrupt lives and challenge the community's stability. The shooting's implications extend beyond immediate safety concerns, as it underscores the persistent issues of organized crime and lack of effective law enforcement in areas where rival gangs operate. The ongoing violence calls for urgent attention from authorities to implement strategies that address both the root causes of crime and the protection of innocent bystanders in such clashes.
