União de Maricá is the champion of the Série Ouro and parades in the Special Group in 2027

União de Maricá won the Série Ouro championship and will parade in the Special Group of the Rio Carnival in 2027.

União de Maricá has emerged as the champion of the Série Ouro for 2026, finishing first in the results announced on Thursday afternoon despite facing a setback of losing 0.2 points in the evolution category and dealing with a serious accident involving their last float during the parade. With a total score of 269.4 points, the school from the Região dos Lagos secured its place in the elite Special Group, marking a significant milestone in its history since its founding in 2015.

The journey of União de Maricá has been one of impressive growth over the past decade. After making a mark in the lower divisions of the carnival competition, the school ascended to the Série Ouro in 2024 and has now, for the first time, clinched a place in the prestigious Special Group. This achievement reflects not only the school's commitment to excellence but also its resilience in overcoming challenges, including the recent parade accident that tested their resolve.

The carnival's theme, “Berenguendéns e balangandãs,” was crafted by Leandro Vieira and celebrated the jewelry-amulets worn by black women, intertwining cultural traditions with a message of female empowerment. The opening commission, designed by Patrick Carvalho, underscored this narrative, making the parade a powerful statement about the strength and beauty of women's contributions to the cultural tapestry of Brazil.
