Trade exchange: in January the trade balance was US$1825 million higher than in 2025

In January, Argentina's trade balance showed a surplus of US$1987 million, up US$1825 million compared to the same month in 2025, largely due to a decrease in imports.

Argentina's trade balance for January 2023 reported a significant surplus of US$1987 million, which marks an increase of US$1825 million compared to January 2025. These figures are part of the Argentine Commercial Exchange report conducted by the national statistics agency, Indec. The rise in surplus is attributed to a notable increase in exports, which saw a 19.3% year-on-year growth, amounting to US$7057 million, fueled by an 18.5% increase in volumes sold and a slight rise in prices.

On the imports side, there was an 11.9% decrease, totaling US$5070 million. This decline was driven by a 12.1% drop in the quantities purchased from abroad, although there was a minimal 0.2% increase in prices. The overall commercial exchange recorded a 3.9% growth compared to the previous year, indicating a robust performance in the trade sector despite the challenges facing the global economy.

These trade dynamics are crucial for Argentina's economy, reflecting a positive shift in balance despite ongoing deficits, particularly with key trading partners like China, where a deficit of US$1022 million was logged. The significant surplus might provide a strategic advantage for the country amidst fluctuating global markets and rising economic pressures, reinforcing the importance of trade policies that bolster exports while managing import levels effectively.
