Owners of electric taxis received financial incentives from ATM
In Guayaquil, 48 financial incentives have been awarded to electric taxi owners as part of a municipal program to encourage the transition to electric vehicles.
In Guayaquil, Ecuador, the municipal government has awarded 48 financial incentives to owners of electric taxis, with the latest seven grants issued on February 19. These incentives are part of the Vehicle Renovation, Enablement, and Electric Mobility Incentives Program, developed under an ordinance aimed at promoting electric transportation within the city.
The Autoridad de TrΓ‘nsito y Movilidad (ATM) has facilitated grants of up to $4,000 for taxi operators and $15,000 for urban bus operators who replace combustion-engine vehicles with electric ones. Fernando Amador, the director of Transportation at the ATM, emphasized that this financial support aims to encourage investments in electric technology, thereby mitigating the environmental impact associated with conventional public transport operations.
As of now, over 130 electric vehicles are already in operation in Guayaquil, contributing to the city's public transport system. This initiative not only promises a greener approach to transportation but also aims to set a precedent for sustainable urban mobility in Ecuador, motivating further shifts in the transport sector towards environmentally friendly technologies.
