Hamas responds to the 'Peace Council' meeting

Hamas asserts that any political path regarding Gaza and the future of the Palestinian people must start with a complete cessation of aggression and lifting the blockade.

In a recent statement, Hamas, the Palestinian Islamic resistance movement, responded strongly to the inaugural meeting of the 'Peace Council' convened to discuss the reconstruction of Gaza, which was chaired by U.S. President Donald Trump and attended by representatives from 47 countries. Hamas emphasized that any political discussions or arrangements regarding Gaza and the future of the Palestinian people must begin with an absolute end to the aggression against Gaza, the lifting of the blockade, and ensuring the legitimate national rights of the Palestinian people, particularly their rights to freedom and self-determination.

Hamas criticized the timing of the Peace Council meeting, asserting that it was inappropriate to engage in discussions about reconstruction while the Israeli occupation continues its alleged violations and aggression, undermining any potential ceasefire agreement. The group called on the international community and participating nations to take concrete steps to obligate the occupying forces to cease their actions, open crossing points, allow humanitarian aid without restrictions, and initiate urgent reconstruction efforts in the region.

Furthermore, Hamas urged international actors and intermediaries to fulfill their responsibilities in ensuring the implementation of previously agreed terms and preventing the occupation from hindering crucial humanitarian and political requirements. They stressed that any genuine international effort to achieve stability in the region must address these fundamental issues and that solutions must be rooted in justice and adherence to the legitimate rights of the Palestinian people.
