Weather: New wave of bad weather before Clean Monday – The "red" areas
Severe weather is expected as Greeks prepare to leave cities for Clean Monday, with rainstorms primarily affecting the central and northern regions.
As the long weekend approaches for Clean Monday, many Greeks will be traveling away from urban centers, but they should brace for severe weather conditions. Meteorologist Christina Rigo from Mega TV warns of unstable weather starting Friday, with intense rainstorms predicted mainly on Friday and Saturday. The weather system is expected to affect areas primarily in central and northern Greece, with a particular focus on Thrace where storms will be most severe.
The severe weather will move from the northwest towards the southeast, impacting various regions throughout the country. By Friday evening, storms are anticipated to hit eastern Sterea and Attica, the Peloponnese, Euboea, and other Aegean islands. There is some relief as weather is expected to improve in other parts of Greece, but travelers should still remain cautious about local conditions.
Additionally, there will be heavy snowfall in the semi-mountainous areas of Thrace at elevations around 400 meters, alongside strong winds reaching 7 to 8 Beaufort. These conditions underscore the importance of preparedness for those planning to travel, especially as they seek to enjoy the holiday amidst potentially challenging weather.
