The body of a newborn baby who went missing after her mother entered a river has been found in São Paulo state.

The body of a newborn baby girl, missing since Tuesday after her mother entered the Pardo River in Águas de Santa Bárbara, was located on Thursday. The child was found dead approximately 1.5 kilometers from where the mother, Amanda Christina Batista Rodrigero, had taken her into the water. The baby's body was entangled in branches along the riverbank. Upon her disappearance, the police began an investigation into the tragic circumstances surrounding the event.

Amanda Christina was arrested on Tuesday, the same day she entered the river with her child, sparking a police inquiry into the situation. Initially treated as a drowning case, the investigation has shifted focus towards a potential homicide attempt, indicating the seriousness of the authorities' suspicions regarding the mother's actions. The body of the infant has been sent to the Avaré Legal Medical Institute for examination to ascertain further details surrounding the cause of death.
