Sisters rescued after 12 hours lost in the woods on their way to a waterfall in Uberaba

Two sisters were rescued after spending 12 hours lost in a rural area in Uberaba while on a hike to a waterfall.

Two sisters, aged 25 and 22, were rescued by the Fire Department after being lost for 12 hours in a forested area in the Peirópolis region of Uberaba, in the Triângulo Mineiro. The sisters embarked on their hike to a waterfall on Wednesday morning but deviated from the trail, losing their way approximately 30 kilometers from their starting point in the Manoel Mendes neighborhood. Due to the difficult terrain and lack of trail markings, they were unable to navigate back and became disoriented.

The authorities indicated that the sisters did not bring food and only carried water bottles, which likely contributed to their challenging situation. Although they had a working cellphone, they were unable to find a signal for several hours, which delayed their ability to call for help. It was only in the afternoon that they managed to catch a signal and contacted the Military Police at number 190 to report their predicament.

The situation highlights the importance of preparedness when hiking in unfamiliar areas, particularly in natural environments that may not have clear paths. Authorities urge individuals to carry adequate supplies and ensure they have a means of communication that works in remote areas to avoid similar incidents. The successful rescue of the sisters serves as a reminder of the risks associated with outdoor activities without proper planning.
