S. Zacharaki: 12 million euros for upgrading infrastructure and equipment in Aretaeio and Aiginiteio
The Greek government has allocated 12 million euros for upgrades at Aretaeio and Aiginiteio hospitals as part of a development program for 2026-2030, announced Education Minister Sofia Zacharaki.
The initial funding of 12 million euros has been earmarked for the Aretaeio and Aiginiteio hospitals under the sectoral Development Program for the period of 2026-2030. This announcement was made by Sofia Zacharaki, the Minister of Education, Religion, and Sports, during the New Year’s pie-cutting event for the two university hospitals. These funds will facilitate significant interventions in the hospitals’ structural infrastructure, electromechanical systems, and medical technology equipment.
Minister Zacharaki emphasized the historical significance of the Aretaeio and Aiginiteio hospitals, stating that they are not just university hospitals but institutions deeply rooted in the history of Greek medicine, education, and social contribution. She noted that honoring their benefactors should be done through action rather than mere words, indicating a commitment to enhancing the hospitals’ capabilities and services through this financial support.
Among the planned interventions at the Aretaeio hospital are extensive maintenance and repair work on building structures for the periods 2026-2027 and 2027-2028, with a budget of 900,000 euros allocated for each period. This investment is part of a broader strategy to improve healthcare facilities in Greece and ensure that these institutions can continue to provide vital medical services to the community effectively.
