Illegal immigrant truck driver accused of killing Indiana man after running red light
A truck driver, who is an undocumented immigrant from India, has been accused of running a red light and causing a fatal accident in Indiana, resulting in the death of a 64-year-old man.
A truck driver arrested in Indiana, Sukhdeep Singh, is being accused of running a red light which led to a fatal crash that killed 64-year-old Terry Schultz. Singh, who is reportedly an illegal immigrant from India, was first caught crossing the U.S. border in 2018, and despite being released at the time due to being a minor, he is now in the custody of Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE). He obtained his commercial driver's license in May 2025, shortly before the tragic incident occurred in Hendricks County, Indiana.
The crash took place when Singh's Freightliner semi-truck collided with Schultz's Chevrolet pickup after running the red light. Witnesses have reported that the impact was severe, causing Schultz's truck to spin out and collide with another vehicle, resulting in immediate fatality for Schultz. This incident has raised significant concerns regarding traffic laws and the implications of undocumented immigrants driving commercial vehicles in the United States, especially following similar past incidents.
The case has garnered widespread media attention, as it brings to light the ongoing debate surrounding immigration status and commercial driving regulations. With Singh's case being the second fatal accident in a short timeframe attributed to illegal immigrant drivers, it has prompted reactions from officials and media personalities about the potential dangers and need for stricter oversight in licensing and immigration policies concerning commercial drivers. The situation underscores the complexities of balancing immigration enforcement with public safety on the roads.
