3857 homeless people registered in Paris, a number up 10%
A recent survey reveals that the number of homeless individuals in Paris has risen to 3,857, marking a 10% increase since the previous year.
The latest count reveals that there are now 3,857 homeless individuals in Paris, reflecting a significant 10% increase from the previous year. This data was gathered during the 9th Night of Solidarity, which took place from January 22 to 23. The count involved the participation of approximately 1,500 Parisians, alongside 500 professionals and over 2,200 volunteers who spread across the city and surrounding areas to meet with homeless individuals and conduct this crucial census.
Comparing to previous years, the situation has worsened, with the number of homeless people recorded rising from 2,600 in 2022 to more than 3,500 by 2025. The increase underscores a growing crisis in urban homelessness within Paris, where makeshift camps have grown more prevalent. Concerns have been raised as the proportion of women counted among the homeless population has decreased, indicating potentially alarming trends in vulnerability and access to support services.
This rising incidence of homelessness calls for urgent attention from local authorities and service organizations, as it highlights the challenges of addressing the complex issues contributing to homelessness. The annual Night of Solidarity is not only a factual accounting but also serves as a wake-up call to the needs of the most vulnerable populations in the capital as the city grapples with escalating economic and social issues affecting housing stability.
