Chairman of the Technocratic Committee: A force of thousands of Palestinian policemen will operate in Gaza within 60 days
A new Palestinian police force estimated to comprise 5,000 officers is set to become operational in Gaza within two months, aimed at disarming Hamas and facilitating reconstruction efforts in the region.
Nikolai Mladenov, the UN Special Coordinator for the Middle East Peace Process, announced during the first meeting of the Peace Council in Washington that the recruitment of Palestinian police has commenced, with the goal of deploying a force within Gaza that will assist in disarming Hamas. He stressed that complete demilitarization of the area is essential for the rebuilding of Gaza, which has faced significant devastation. Ali Sha'ath, the Chairman of the Palestinian Technocratic Committee, confirmed that this police force will consist of approximately 5,000 individuals and will begin operations in sixty days.
Mladenov elaborated on the training process, which will take place in Egypt, emphasizing that there is no alternative to a complete disarmament of Hamas if meaningful reconstruction efforts are to begin. The international peacekeeping force will initially be positioned in Rafah and will include soldiers from various countries such as Indonesia, Morocco, Albania, Kosovo, and Kazakhstan. This initiative aims to stabilize the region and provide a structure for peace and security.
Furthermore, U.S. President Trump mentioned that several countries, including Saudi Arabia, have already contributed around $7 billion towards the reconstruction of the Gaza Strip. This significant financial backing highlights the international community's recognition of the urgent need for assistance in rebuilding Gaza, indicating potential changes in the political and military landscape of the region as such initiatives unfold.
