Qatar has pledged to provide one billion dollars to support the mission of the peace council, which is tasked with examining relief efforts and reconstructing the Gaza Strip. During the inaugural meeting of the council held at the United States Institute of Peace in Washington, Qatari Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani emphasized the council's commitment under President Donald Trump's leadership to fully implement a 20-point plan aimed at ending the conflict in Gaza.
In his opening remarks at the meeting, President Trump praised Qatar's diplomatic role, acknowledging the significant contributions the country is making to facilitate peace efforts. He described Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani as a "great man" and underscored the importance of Qatar's support in the peace process. Furthermore, U.S. Special Envoy Steve Witteckoff commented on the remarkable partnership between Qatar and Egypt, highlighting the exceptional leadership of the Qatari Prime Minister.
The inaugural meeting of the peace council was attended by leaders and representatives from approximately 40 participating countries. Executive Director Nikolai Mladenov expressed gratitude to Qatar, Egypt, and Turkey for their support of the council. This gathering marks a significant step in fostering international collaboration to address the ongoing challenges in Gaza, signaling the critical role of Qatar in the broader Middle East peace process.
