Thousands of adults to get £400 cash boost a year to help with cost of living

Thousands of adults in the UK will receive a £400 annual payment to assist with living costs, as part of a broader government initiative.

In a bid to alleviate the financial strain of rising living costs, the UK government has announced that over 150,000 working-age adults will receive an annual cash boost of at least £400 starting from April 2026. This initiative is aimed specifically at those receiving social care, ensuring they can maintain a minimum income guarantee that covers essential living expenses such as food and utility bills after paying for home care services.

Additionally, the government has committed £723 million to the Disabled Facilities Grant (DFG), which will provide funding for older and disabled individuals to adapt their homes to better suit their needs. For those eligible for the disability premium, which is an additional allowance for those with higher disability requirements, there will be an increase in entitlements allowing them to keep an additional £510 per year.

The adjustments in the minimum income guarantee and the financial support for home adaptations highlight the government's ongoing efforts to support vulnerable populations by ensuring they have access to necessary financial resources. These changes reflect a recognition of the increasing cost of living and the significant challenges faced by those requiring care and assistance in the community.
