Ceará government announces contest with 2,000 vacancies for teachers
The Ceará government has announced the creation of 2,000 vacancies for a public competition aimed at hiring state school teachers.
The government of Ceará, Brazil, announced the opening of 2,000 vacancies for public competitions for teachers in the state education network. This decision was revealed by Governor Elmano de Freitas during a meeting with representatives from the Apeoc union, indicating a commitment to improve educational standards in the region. The proposal for the public contest will be forwarded to the Legislative Assembly of Ceará for assessment, highlighting the state's efforts to bolster its teaching workforce.
Governor Elmano de Freitas had previously promised the implementation of a new competition back in February, underscoring the importance of having qualified and established teachers within the educational system. He emphasized that the state is ready to enhance its educational framework by providing career plans and better conditions for its teachers. Freitas noted that the current educational network includes over 200 doctors, 7,000 specialists, and 2,000 masters, reflecting the state's robust academic environment.
Moreover, a law was sanctioned to ensure the payment of the national minimum wage for teachers with a retroactive increase of 5.4% effective from January 2026. This increase is set to apply across the teaching career, benefiting permanent teachers and aiming to improve the overall compensation for educators in Ceará. Such measures are indicative of the government's strategy to attract and retain high-quality educators as part of a broader initiative to enhance educational outcomes in the state.
