Danish authorities arrested a vessel sailing under the Iranian flag
Danish authorities have detained a container ship sailing under the Iranian flag, claiming it is not properly registered.
Danish authorities have arrested a container ship that was operating under the Iranian flag, citing issues with the vessel's registration. The ship, named Nora, is 226 meters long and had been anchored in the Kattegat sea area between Denmark and Sweden for 25 days. Reports indicate that the vessel recently switched its flag from the Comoros, but the Comoros claim that the ship is not listed in their records.
According to Danish media TV2, the ship shifted from flying the Comorian flag to the Iranian flag, which prompted a review from the Danish maritime authorities. Due to the lack of proper registration and certification by its flag state, authorities have detained the vessel until the country responsible for its flag can provide proof of the ship's registration and certification to the Danish Maritime Authority.
Authorities have stated that they will board the vessel as soon as weather conditions permit, for further assessments and to ensure compliance with maritime laws. This incident sheds light on maritime registration practices and the responsibilities of flag states, particularly concerning vessels that may be flagged under countries with contentious geopolitical situations like Iran.
