Who after Kaczyński? A survey indicates a single leader to take the helm in PiS
A recent survey reveals that former Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki is the top choice to succeed Jarosław Kaczyński as the leader of PiS.
A survey conducted by IBRiS has asked Poles who they believe should replace Jarosław Kaczyński as the leader of the ruling Law and Justice party (PiS). The results show that Mateusz Morawiecki, the former Prime Minister, leads decisively with 29% of the votes. This indicates a clear preference among respondents for Morawiecki, as he stands notably apart from other potential candidates, reflecting his perceived leadership qualities and prior experience in office.
The survey highlights the uncertainty surrounding Kaczyński's successor, as 24% of participants chose the option 'I don't know/it's hard to say'. This significant proportion suggests that finding a suitable replacement for Kaczyński, who has been a dominant figure in Polish politics, is not straightforward for PiS. Additionally, 18% of respondents believe the party should look for a new leader outside the current political figures presented in the survey, indicating a desire for new perspectives or candidates.
Other potential successors included Przemysław Czarnek, who received only 11% of the votes, and several others like Mariusz Błaszczak, Patryk Jaki, and Tobiasz Bocheński, who garnered just 5% each. The lower percentages for these names point to a lack of strong consensus within the party regarding leadership, emphasizing the importance of Morawiecki as a frontrunner in discussions about the future direction of PiS and its leadership.
