Former DF Vice Chairman Drops Candidacy for the Moderates

René Christensen, the former vice chairman of the Danish People's Party, has decided not to run for the Danish Parliament with the Moderates after previously serving nearly 15 years in office.

René Christensen, who served as the vice chairman of the Danish People's Party and a Member of Parliament for almost 15 years from 2008 to 2022, has announced that he will not be seeking election for the Moderates in the upcoming parliamentary elections. His political career saw him in a significant role as the party's finance spokesperson, but his tenure concluded with a disappointing election in 2022, where he lost to Pia Kjærsgaard in the Sjællands Storkreds, resulting in the party securing just one mandate.

In 2024, Christensen switched allegiance to the Moderates, positioning himself as the lead candidate for the local elections in Guldborgsund Municipality in 2025. He achieved a personal vote count of 865, securing a position within the council, although the Moderates overall obtained only a single mandate in that election, highlighting the party's limited success in the local landscape.

Now, after much reflection, he has chosen not to run for the Folketing once again in Sjællands Storkreds. In his public statement, Christensen expressed gratitude for his extensive experience in Parliament, indicating a sense of closure after his long political career, yet also hinting at a strategic retreat from seeking a higher office previously anticipated with the Moderates.
