According to the police, the fire in the Bohnice psychiatric hospital was probably started by a patient who died

A fire at the Psychiatric Hospital in Bohnice, Prague, was likely intentionally ignited by a patient who subsequently died at the scene, according to police.

On Wednesday, a fire broke out at the Psychiatric Hospital in Bohnice, Prague, which police believe was deliberately set by a patient who tragically died in the incident. The fire occurred in a building leased by the non-profit organization National Institute of Autism, which operates within the hospital premises. Firefighters were able to quickly bring the fire under control, but the police have opened a criminal investigation into the matter due to suspicions of public endangerment.

Police spokesperson Jan Rybanský confirmed that if it is determined that the deceased patient was indeed responsible for starting the fire, the case may be closed without further legal action. Despite the quick response, the fire resulted in serious injuries to one person who was resuscitated but unfortunately did not survive. Sixteen individuals were evacuated from the facility during the incident.

Magdalena Šubrt Thorová, the executive director of the National Institute of Autism, expressed her condolences and concern over the incident, emphasizing the importance of safety within the institution. Investigators are now assessing the preliminary damages from the fire, and the overall impact of this event on both the hospital and the non-profit organization is still being evaluated as they address the aftermath of this tragedy.
