Scrap dealer found gold worth 1.5 million but showed such honor, receiving much praise
In Faridabad, a scrap dealer returned gold jewelry valued at 1.5 million rupees to its rightful owner after it was mistakenly sold as scrap.
In an inspiring act of honesty, a scrap dealer named Haji Akhtar Khan in Faridabad, India, returned approximately 100 grams of gold jewelry to a family who had accidentally sold it at his shop as scrap metal. This incident stands out amid a backdrop of increasing thefts and robberies, making it a particularly heartwarming story. The jewelry was said to be worth about 1.5 million rupees, and its return has drawn widespread praise for the dealer's integrity.
The story dates back to January of the previous year when Ashok Sharma, the owner of the gold, and his family went for a religious pilgrimage. To prevent theft during their absence, they had securely stored their gold in a box and placed it in a sack. Unfortunately, during Diwali cleaning, the sack was mistakingly sold to Haji Akhtar as scrap without the family knowing that their valuable jewelry was inside. It wasn’t until four months later that the family realized the jewelry was missing, prompting a search at the scrap yard.
After diligent searching, Haji Akhtar eventually found the wrapped gold jewelry among other scrap items in his warehouse. This act not only highlights the issue of integrity in business but also the importance of community and looking out for one another, which resonates deeply within Indian cultural values. The return of the jewelry has brought relief to the Sharma family and admiration from the local community for Haji Akhtar's commendable actions, showcasing that honesty can often shine the brightest in challenging situations.
